St. Josaphat Parish is proud to honor
9th Annual Unity Award Winner
St. Vincent de Paul Center
After-school Programs

Sponsored by the Daughters of Charity, St. Vincent de Paul Center is one of the largest single-facility, non-profit child care centers in Illinois, currently serving 445 children age three months to 13 years (more than 200 are under five years of age). St. Vincent’s provides early childhood education for infants, toddlers and two-year olds, a Pre-kindergarten program, kindergarten programs, before and after-school programs for children age 6-13, and a summer camp program — year-round services for the children of working parents.
The before and after-school program includes morning and afternoon transportation between St. Vincent’s and several neighborhood schools which is a critical service to allow parents the ability to work full-time and send their children to high-quality schools. After-school activities include homework assistance, educational play programs, and character-building activities that help the children develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
The Center employs educators, social workers, a nurse, and volunteers to offer the wrap-around care that distinguishes St. Vincent de Paul Center from other child development programs. This comprehensive service helps to promote a safe, compassionate and stable learning environment. It also allows children and their parents to receive an immediate response to the unique challenges facing them.
Bart Winters, Chief Executive Officer, St. Vincent de Paul Center & Marillac Social Center, said, “St. Vincent’s absorbs more than $1 million in child development program expenses each year to keep its quality, comprehensive program affordable to its low-income parents. The Unity Award will help our students and families continue to benefit from our after-school programs.”
Mr. Winters is profoundly grateful for St. Josaphat Parish’s recognition of St. Vincent de Paul Center, each of them neighborhood institutions recognized for excellence in educating students and sustaining families.
